Philips and MEDIC FIRST AID® Team Up to Provide a New AED Solution for Pediatric Patients

Sudden cardiac arrest primarily affects adults but can also strike infants and children. The HeartStart Home, Onsite and FR2 Plus Automated External Defibrillators (AED's) from Philips have been designed to use special pediatric defibrillation pads that contain an attenuated circuit to reduce the energy to deliver appropriate defibrillation shocks to infants and children.

MEDIC FIRST AID® has developed and produced an "add-on" training program segment to train providers in the use of these new pediatric defibrillation pads. It includes a short video piece, student handout and facilitator guide pages for each defibrillator. These program segments can be added to the MEDIC FIRST AID® AED Supplement training program.

Administrative Notes
EMP Canada Rules and Regulations

A copy of all rosters (written or electronically generated) class evaluations, and Instructor or Trainer applications must be submitted to EMP Canada and second copy kept in a training file maintained by the Authorized Instructor, Trainer, or Master.

EMP Canada staff review all of the rosters and class evaluations as they arrive from our members across the nation. This function is an integral component of the Quality Assurance process that helps us to maintain the credibility of the EMP Programs. Unfortunately, over a period of time some of us have fallen into the habit of grouping the rosters and evaluations. That is sending in rosters and evaluations for classes conducted over a period of several months.

To correct this situation,
Effective January 1, 2003 all rosters and class evaluations are required to be received by EMP Canada no later than 30 days after course completion date.

Please ensure that ROSTERS include the following information

Course Description

Date Course Completed

Instructor Name and Number Clearly Printed

Student Names Legibly writen

This helps our certification department to input the information into our computer registry

Effective January 1, 2003 all rosters and class evaluations are to be received by EMP Canada no later than 30 days after course completion date.
